This course aims to give you the knowledge and skills to understand hypertension management in primary care

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Explain why identifying Hypertension is important.

  • Define hypertension based on the updated NICE NG136 guidance (2019)

  • How to assess and identify Hypertension with regard to the investigations required in primary care.

  • Describe the causes of Hypertension in presenting patients

  • Explain the pathophysiology of Hypertension in words patients can understand.

  • Explain the lifestyle risk factors and the non-pharmacological interventions that HCP's can support the person with using effective motivational strategies.

  • Describe the pharmacological interventions used in the treatment and management of hypertension taking a person-centred approach

  • Involve the person with hypertension in shared decision making about treatments.

  • Explain the importance of follow-up and monitoring
