By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Explain why identifying Atrial Fibrillation is important.

  • Recall how to assess and identify the various presentations of Atrial Fibrillation and the investigations required in primary care.

  • Describe the pathophysiology of Atrial Fibrillation in words patients can understand.

  • Describe the symptoms and causes of AF in presenting patients.

  • Recognise the relevance and importance of finding AF in patients to prevent more serious health issues such as stroke.

  • Be aware of the evidence based guidelines and the NICE Quality Standard on how to care for and treat AF with pharmacological interventions.

  • Describe other interventions for treating AF which may be required
